Me drinking wine. August of 2024. I returned to the Inn where Patrick died on the Oregon coast. I planted a Bleeding Heart - a suitably named plant for how I was feeling and the beautiful soul I so desperately missed. I also buried some of his ashes there. When the planting was complete, my daughter and a couple of close friends drank wine and shared stories.
I think the look on our faces speaks for itself. I loved this man from the depths of my heart. This photo was taken sometime during the first half of our marriage.
This is the last photo I have of Patrick. We were waiting for the ferry to take us from Anacortes to Lopez Island in the San Juans. The photo was taken on August 5th. He died on August 10.
Ah…the contrast. What we both looked like in August of 1981 on our wedding day. And then, 37 years later, at a party in Palm Springs, CA. (As a reminder, Patrick died while we were celebrating our 39th anniversary).
Just added the 5th photo - the Buddha under the tree. I created a memorial to Patrick under that tree which lives on my son and daughter-in-law’s property outside Austin, Texas. Some of Patrick’s ashes are in the small jar, a replica of a Folger’s Coffee can. He loved the Big Lebowski and always said - "just put my ashes in a Folger’s Coffee can" - as in the movie. Not only did I do that but I invited attendees at his memorial service, should they so desire, to take a small can and spread the ashes somewhere that they had shared with Patrick.
My involvement as a panelist at the day-long Celebration of Life Seattle went very well. The array of topics, speakers, vendors, and medium was illuminating, to say the least.
